Astell & Kern
KANN Ultra Leather Case
$120.00 USDThe Perfect Fit and Best Grip for the Kann Ultra DAP
The Astell & Kern KANN ULTRA is a premium portable player that deserves a case as luxurious and well-crafted as the device itself. Astell & Kern has partnered with the renowned CONCERIA WALPIER and BADALASSI CARLO - two of Italy's most prestigious tanneries - to create an exquisite leather case worthy of protecting their flagship portable music player.
This opulent leather case is handcrafted from the highest quality vegetable-tanned leather sourced from these celebrated Italian tanneries. The hides used are selected from the finest part of the cowhide and tanned using traditional vegetable tanning methods that have remained virtually unchanged for centuries. This results in a leather that is remarkably durable, supple, and rich in natural character with a distinctive patina that only develops after years of use and exposure to the elements.
The meticulously tanned leather is then cut, shaped, and stitched by skilled artisans to exacting specifications. The seams are handsomely reinforced with precisely spaced rivets, lending both strength and decorative detail that is visibly striking. This handcrafted case is a true work of craftsmanship - from the intricate stitching and decorative accents to the uniquely textured surface and rich colors that can only be achieved through the time-tested process of vegetable tanning.
This premium leather case not only provides superior protection for the KANN ULTRA, shielding it from scratches, moisture, and impacts - it is itself a handsome work of functional art that is a pleasure to behold. The leather develops its own distinctive character over time, acquiring a unique patina and visual appeal that can only come from years of use and exposure to the elements. This heirloom-quality case will endure for generations, becoming more beautiful with age while protecting your priceless KANN ULTRA portable music player.
Leather from BADALASSI CARLO
Badalassi Carlo is a highly respected tannery that has been producing premium vegetable-tanned leathers for over 40 years, drawing from centuries-old tanning techniques developed in the Tuscany region of Italy. The tannery is headed by Carlo Badalsi, who was a professor teaching the traditional methods of vegetable tanning at the famous leather schools in Santa Croce. Badalassi and his tannery are renowned for their expertise in creating superb leathers using age-old tanning processes that rely solely on tannins from plant-based sources like tree bark, woods, fruits, and other natural materials instead of harsher chemicals.
The vegetable tanning process results in leathers that are prized for their exceptional quality, highly durable yet pliable characteristics, and beautiful natural appearance with wrinkles and imperfections that add to their unique, handcrafted look and feel. These vegetable-tanned leathers also develop distinctive patinas over time from exposure, wear, and use that create incredible depth, texture, and visual interest.
Thanks to the unique properties of vegetable tanning, the tanned leathers produced by Badalassi exhibit surprisingly little deterioration or damage even after many years of use in outdoor conditions and exposure to the elements. These exceptionally durable leathers age gracefully and feature rich textures and distinctive looks that convey unrivaled quality - a true premium product.
Leather from CONCERIA WALPIER
Nestled in the heart of San Miniato, Tuscany, Italy, Walpier Tannery has been carrying on the region's rich tradition of vegetable tanning for three generations since its establishment in 1973. This renowned tannery is renowned for its meticulous adherence to centuries-old vegetable tanning methods passed down from father to son. Walpier Tannery sources only the finest 100% raw hides imported from France, ensuring the highest quality leathers as the foundation for their artisanal tanning processes. The tannery is a proud member of Vera Pelle, Italy's prestigious association of vegetable-based leather tanners, further attesting to their commitment to these time-honored techniques.
The vegetable tanning process employed by Walpier is a painstaking 40-day procedure that has been practiced by Italian tanners for centuries. This traditional method relies solely on tannins derived from natural plant sources, resulting in leathers of unparalleled quality, durability, and character.
What sets Walpier's vegetable-tanned leathers apart is their ability to continue evolving over time, gradually developing a rich patina that reflects the unique lifestyle and usage patterns of each individual owner. As the leather ages, it acquires distinctive character, with wrinkles, marks, and textures that tell a story – a narrative woven by the owner's experiences and interactions with the material. This organic aging process, coupled with the inherent quality of Walpier's vegetable tanning, ensures that each leather product is truly one-of-a-kind, a living embodiment of the owner's journey. It is this combination of time-honored craftsmanship and the ability to capture the essence of the user's life that has solidified Walpier Tannery's reputation as a purveyor of some of the finest vegetable-tanned leathers in the world.
[Minerva] BLACK Case
Minerva leather, unlike Minerva Box, is a plain, un-milled leather that looks matte at first, but as it gets used, the color deepens and the luster increases, so you can see and feel the change over time.
[Buttero] NAVY Case
The navy color case of KANN ULTRA uses Walpier's Buttero leather. Buttero leather is made of milled leather to make it soft and natural on the surface. Buttero leather, like other leather used by Walpier, is manufactured from the finest French hides, so the texture is dense, and the surface is smooth.
