The PB5 Osprey does not include a DAC, as it is only a standalone portable tube headphone amplifier. The PB5 Osprey is designed with dual 6th generation Nutubes, the 6P1 (manufactured by KORG and Noritake). The Nutube works just like a conventional triode vacuum tube and recreates the same, popular rich overtones that many audiophiles and music lovers pine over in conventional tube amplifiers (with triode tubes). The real benefit of the Butube design is the fact that it can create this vintage sound while at the same time being much smaller, more power efficient, and last longer than many other full-size vacuum tubes and amplifiers.
The PB5 Osprey Portable Tube Headphone Amplifier is designed with a total of 6 batteries for the power supply system. The KORG Nutubes utilize two of the batteries for functionality while the other 4 batteries are designed as the power supply for the secondary amplifier. The Osprey is an incredibly efficient headphone amplifier even with the tube circuitry, and delivers uncompromised and immersive sound with amazing detail and clarity.
The PB5 Osprey is configured with an extremely diminutive and precise 24-position, 4-section stepped attenuator. This analog volume control is the perfect way to showcase the distinctive and admired analog characteristics of the vacuum tubes' sound and power. Channel imbalance on the Osprey is within a range of less than +/-0.1dB. When adjusting the analog volume control on the PB5, the noise floor is simultaneously attenuated, presenting the listener with pristine and wonderful tube sound and dynamics.
The PB5 Osprey can deliver up to 1700mW + 1700mW @32ohms, thanks to the 6-battery power supply and the transistor current amplifier. The Osprey is designed to be incredibly power efficient while still being able to output an incredible amount of power to efficiently drive your favorite full-size audiophile-grade headphones or IEMs.
The PB5 Osprey is designed with a two-step suspension system which absorbs vibrations of the amplifier mechanically while also minimizing microphonic effect. The cathode input reduces the impedence, resulting in reduced signal interference and noise from external sources. Nothing but crystal-clear sound and reliable power.
The PB5 can use a line input voltage of up to 2.5 volts. Please note that if the voltage is higher than this, the sound or music will have distortion. If you are using the DX220MAX, DX300MAX, or DX320MAX's line out with the PB5, please do not use the highest gain setting.
